Baku: The transition to clean energy has become an irreversible trend, stated Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, during the opening ceremony of the Fourth Climate Week (CW4) under the same framework.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Stiell highlighted that annual climate finance is projected to reach $1.3 trillion by 2035. The Baku to Bel©m Roadmap has outlined practical steps to expedite progress in this area, ensuring that financial resources are allocated to the sectors most in need. Investment in clean energy currently exceeds $2 trillion each year, marking a significant shift as renewable energy sources have surpassed coal to become primary electricity sources globally. This trend is expected to continue growing.

Stiell emphasized the importance of implementing climate action beyond traditional settings like board meetings or municipal councils, advocating for action in cities, industrial facilities, and communities. He identified several key priorities for the future, including electrification, the development of electricity grids and energy storage systems, zero waste initiatives, food security, reducing methane emissions, and constructing resilient and efficient cities.
