Baku to Host 67th Annual Meeting of International Association of Judges in October

Baku: The 67th Annual Meeting of the International Association of Judges (IAJ) will take place in Baku from October 11-17. Founded in 1953, the IAJ aims to preserve the independence of judicial authorities worldwide. The association includes judges’ organizations from 93 countries and holds annual meetings only in nations where the rule of law and judicial independence are upheld.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the prestigious event in Baku is expected to bring together approximately 300 participants from 71 countries. These will include judges, representatives of international organizations, and renowned experts. As part of the General Assembly, elections to the IAJ’s governing bodies will occur. Discussions will focus on the state of judicial and legal systems in various countries, existing challenges, and successful practices. Azerbaijan, as the host country, will also present its judicial and legal system to the participants.

The event will feature an international conference on the relationships between the judiciary and other branches of power. This will emphasize the role of courts in upholding the rule of law. Additionally, the next president of the International Association of Judges will be elected during the Assembly in Baku, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s history.

The decision to hold the 2025 General Assembly in Baku was made last year in Cape Town, South Africa, through a secret ballot by the organization’s members.
