Bishkek Celebrates Korean Culture with Kimchi 2023 Festival

BISHKEK – The capital city of Kyrgyzstan is hosting the Kimchi 2023 Festival, dedicated to the Korean dish known for its seasoned, pickled vegetables.

According to a new release by 24.kg News Agency, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Kyrgyzstan organized the event.

The festival is being held in front of the Kurmanjan Datka monument, located on an alley in the city. The City Hall highlighted that the craft of making kimchi was designated an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2013.

Kimchi typically consists of Chinese cabbage that has been pickled and seasoned with ingredients like red pepper, green onions, onion juice, garlic, and ginger.
