Baku: Bishop Alexiy of the Baku and Azerbaijan Eparchy emphasized the unity and cooperation among Orthodox Christians, Muslims, and Jews during the Patriotic War at the 5th session commemorating the 5th anniversary of the Commemoration Day of Religious Confessions in Azerbaijan. This event was organized by the Caucasus Muslim Board. Bishop Alexiy stated that Azerbaijan is a tolerant and multicultural nation where citizens, irrespective of their nationality or region, coexist as one family.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Bishop Alexiy highlighted that during the Patriotic War, Orthodox Christians joined their Muslim and Jewish compatriots in defending their homeland. He mentioned that many Russian citizens, including Yuri Kovalev and Igor Makeyev, who became National Heroes of Azerbaijan, participated in the First Karabakh War. Denis Pronin and Dmitry Solntsev sacrificed their lives in the Second Karabakh War. Bishop Alexiy expressed the importance of remembering these heroes and acknowledged the diverse nationalities living together after the victory. He shared that many individuals were injured, underwent rehabilitation, and have since reintegrated into their communities.

Bishop Alexiy pointed out the significance of the victory in the Patriotic War for Azerbaijan. He noted that the victory enabled the return of lost territories, ensured security, and facilitated economic development in the regions. The government has initiated a program to restore infrastructure, construct new roads, schools, and hospitals. Residents of the liberated regions have returned to their homes, embarking on new lives. Additionally, the victory has bolstered Azerbaijan’s international reputation, underscoring the nation’s capability to defend its territory and population against external threats.
