Baku:BP has successfully concluded a multi-well subsea intervention campaign in the Deepwater Gunashli area of the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli field. The operation, which commenced in the fourth quarter of 2025, was completed safely and ahead of schedule, involving intervention activities on seven wells.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, this campaign marked the first use of riserless light well intervention (RLWI) technology in BP's Caspian operations. The technology, provided by Oceaneering International's Blue Ocean Riserless Intervention System, allowed access to subsea wells without the need for conventional drilling risers, ensuring well control and pressure containment throughout the intervention.

The subsea construction vessel Khankendi was utilized as a light well intervention vessel, integrating the RLWI system. This was the first time such a system was used in the Caspian. The project also involved the installation and first-time use of a moonpool system aboard the Khankendi, which facilitates the safe deployment of subsea equipment through the vessel's hull.

The intervention jobs, completed on seven subsea wells, addressed accessibility challenges and enabled efficient well surveillance. This has helped identify opportunities for reservoir pressure management and production rate enhancement, contributing to the potential development of the ACG field.
