Baku: British Ambassador Duncan Norman recently highlighted the robust defense relations between the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan, describing them as being at their strongest period in history. Speaking at an event in Baku to celebrate the birthday of King Charles III, Norman reflected on the substantial progress Azerbaijan has made since his first visit in 1999.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the ambassador emphasized Azerbaijan's transformation into a dynamic, modern country with significant global connections. He noted the current period as one of opportunity for Azerbaijan, particularly in the context of establishing lasting peace in the South Caucasus. This peace, he stated, would open doors for enhanced trade, investment, and connectivity in the region, with the main challenge being to ensure the permanence of peace.

Norman praised the enduring warmth and hospitality of the Azerbaijani people, a constant he observed amidst the country's changes. He expressed his privilege in advancing the over three-decade-long cooperation between the UK and Azerbaijan, now elevated to a Strategic Partnership. The ambassador mentioned that the bilateral relations initially began in the energy sector, with BP's pivotal investments shaping Azerbaijan's modern economic landscape.

In addition to energy, Norman revealed that defense relations have reached unprecedented strength. The countries collaborate closely in tackling cross-border smuggling of illicit goods. British companies are also actively contributing to various sectors in Azerbaijan, including aviation, infrastructure, finance, and artificial intelligence. He highlighted the UK's pride in supporting mine clearance activities in Karabakh, aiding in the region's reconstruction and community recovery. Beyond security and economic collaboration, Norman affirmed that the ties between the two nations continue to deepen.
