BTC Pipeline Achieves Major Milestone with 557 Million Tons of Oil Transported

Baku: Since its commissioning, the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline has successfully transported approximately 557 million tons of Azerbaijani oil to global markets.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the BTC pipeline began its operations two decades ago, with the first tanker loaded with export crude oil on June 4, 2006. This pipeline plays a crucial role in transporting oil produced from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli fields and condensate from the Shah Deniz field in Azerbaijan.

The BTC pipeline's journey begins at the Sangachal terminal and traverses through the territories of Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Trkiye, finally reaching the Ceyhan terminal on the Turkish coast of the Mediterranean Sea. The pipeline became operational in June 2006, after it was initially filled with oil on May 10, 2005, and the first crude oil shipment arrived at the Ceyhan terminal on May 28, 2006.
