Burkina Faso Assumes Chairmanship of IDB Board of Governors from Azerbaijan

Baku: On June 19, the final day of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, Burkina Faso officially took over the chairmanship of the IsDB Board of Governors from the Republic of Azerbaijan. The closing session was organized within the framework of the IsDB Group Annual Meetings, held under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. During the event, participants reviewed the strategic operational tracks of the institutions within the IsDB Group, evaluated the results achieved, and outlined core priorities for the upcoming period.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the discussions highlighted the strategic significance of promoting inclusive economic development, expanding sustainable financing mechanisms, and reinforcing multilateral cooperation among member states. The event culminated with the official handover ceremony, marking the transfer of the chairmanship of the IsDB Board of Governors to Burkina Faso.

The next Annual Meetings of the Islamic Development Bank Group are scheduled to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in 2027. The Republic of Azerbaijan had assumed the chairmanship of the Board of Governors following the bank's annual meeting held in Algiers on May 19-22, 2025.
