Baku: Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand and Azerbaijan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov engaged in a telephone conversation to discuss regional security concerns and bilateral efforts.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the ministers expressed serious concerns regarding the ongoing military escalation in the region and the increasing security risks. Both ministers emphasized the importance of preventing further deterioration of the situation, enhancing diplomatic efforts, and adhering to international law principles.
Minister Anita Anand conveyed her appreciation to Azerbaijan for facilitating the transit of Canadian citizens through Azerbaijani territory during the military escalation in Iran in June of the previous year. She acknowledged the swift and humanitarian assistance provided by Azerbaijan at that critical time.
In view of the current security environment, the ministers also discussed the potential for using the Azerbaijani border to evacuate Canadian citizens from Iran if necessary. Both sides considered this option as part of their ongoing evaluation of the security situation and possible responses.
