Catherine Stella Namakula Advocates for UN-Level Framework on Reparations for African Descent

Baku: The issue of reparations for historical injustices against peoples of African descent needs to be addressed within an institutional framework at the United Nations level. Catherine Stella Namakula, Chairperson of the Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent and Founder of the Africa Reparation Hub, emphasized this point during an international conference titled 'Belgium's Colonial Injustice and the 101-Year Path to Reparations.'

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Namakula highlighted the necessity of eliminating the consequences of historical injustices and defining common standards for resolving the issue of reparations internationally. She stressed the importance of establishing institutional mechanisms to ensure systematic and goal-oriented approaches to reparations. Namakula proposed the establishment of a special institution at the UN level to focus more effectively on the reparations issue.
