Central Bank Strengthens Data Governance for AI Solutions

Baku: "Although the majority of data in the financial sector consists of structured data, unstructured data also exists. The use of Data Lakehouse-type solutions is necessary to collect and manage this data in a unified environment," stated Mahir Quluzade, Head of the Data Engineering Division of the Data Department at the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, during his speech at the "International Finance and Banking Summit 2026" held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Quluzade emphasized that one of the most important foundational elements for the effective use of artificial intelligence is the establishment of a strong Data Governance system. This enables AI systems to better understand the content and logic of existing data and to use that data more effectively. Data Governance includes not only governance mechanisms but also tracking data lineage and ensuring data quality.

He noted that the Central Bank is also implementing important projects in this area. The transition to a Data Lakehouse and the implementation of Data Governance projects are planned by 2026. Significant work is currently being carried out in these areas, and although this is the final year of their strategy, Quluzade expressed confidence in achieving the set targets.

Additionally, Quluzade highlighted that one of the main priorities in the next phase is to add an AI layer, namely MLOps capabilities, on top of this infrastructure. A separate strategy has already been developed in this direction, he emphasized.
