Baku: “It is not fair that only five states have a say in the United Nations Security Council,” stated Akif Cagatay Kilic, Chief Advisor to the President of Trkiye on Foreign Policy and Security Issues. This declaration was made during a panel titled “UN Pact for the Future: Creating a New Global Consensus” at the XII Global Baku Forum, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Kilic emphasized that, despite Trkiye’s efforts to support Ukraine, current limitations and a lack of trust between the conflicting parties hinder further progress. Kilic also highlighted the diminishing public trust in politicians across the globe, pointing out that recent political developments contribute to this skepticism.
He further elaborated on Trkiye’s prolonged candidacy for European Union membership, which remains unfulfilled. Kilic reiterated comments made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who described joining the EU as a strategic objective for Trkiye. Kilic criticized the five global superpowers for failing to resolve existing issues, suggesting that a global survey would reveal widespread public distrust in politicians. He stressed that addressing concerns relevant to the public should be prioritized and criticized the current UN Security Council structure, where only five states hold decision-making power. Kilic called for timely resolution of issues to prevent them from spiraling out of control.
