China in April increased oil production by 1.4%, gas – by 7%

In April 2023, China increased oil production by 1.4%, up to 17.28 million tons compared to the same month last year, the State Statistical Office. In January-April, production amounted to 69.64 million tons of oil, by 1.8% higher than in the same period a year earlier. The volume of oil refining last month soared by 18.9% and amounted to 61.14 million tons, the second indicator for the entire time of calculations. The strong growth is due, among other things, to a low comparison base, since in April 2022 the demand for refined petroleum products was low due to lockdowns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In four months, the production of petroleum products in the country increased by 8.3% to 240.18 million tons. In April, natural gas production in China increased by 7% and reached 18.9 bcm, since the beginning of this year – by 4.8%, to 78.3 bcm. Oil imports in April amounted to 42.41 million tons, by 1.4% less than in the same month of last year. Meanwhile, in four months, deliveries increased by 4.6% to 178.77 million tons. Gas imports in April increased by 11% to 8.98 million tons. At the same time, in January-April, it decreased by 0.3% and amounted to 35.69 million tons.
