Council of Europe (CoE) Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland has answered question from the assembly members during the PACE plenary meeting.
In a question to the CoE secretary general, Qenire Pashayeva, a member of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE, brought up the issue of Shahbaz Guliyev and Dilgam Asgarov who are illegally being held hostage by the Armenians in occupied Azerbaijan lands.
Inhumane actions have been committed against Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev – two Azerbaijanis taken hostage a few months ago by the separatist regime, which has been created in the Azerbaijani lands occupied by Armenia and is not recognized by any country but is backed by Armenia, violating all norms of international law.
Despite so many calls, the two are still in hostage. Mr. Secretary General, their families are expecting your support, asking you to take actions to save them. As the secretary general, what actions can you take to secure their release?
Mr. Jagland answered that he is closing following developments on the matter.
I am seriously concerned by this matter. What can I do? If now I tell what I can do, maybe it will not yield any result. But I assure you that I am closely following developments on the matter and trying to help the situation change in positive direction, said the CoE secretary general.
