Construction of Aghband-Kalaleh Bridge Nears Completion

Baku: The construction of the South Cargo Terminal, owned by Azerbaijan Railways and located in the Iranian city of Astara, is nearing completion. This terminal is a significant component of the North-South Transport Corridor, as stated by Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev during a trilateral meeting of government representatives from Azerbaijan, Russia, and Iran.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Mustafayev highlighted the importance of the new Aghband-Kalaleh automobile bridge being constructed over the Araz River. This infrastructure project, governed by the Intergovernmental Memorandum of Understanding signed between Azerbaijan and Iran in March 2022, is poised to become a crucial part of the region’s strategic transport network. The completion of the bridge, a pivotal element of the Araz Corridor, is scheduled for the end of this year, while the associated border and customs infrastructure is expected to be finalized in the first quarter of next year.
