Construction of Aghband-Kalaleh Bridge Nears Completion in Astara

Astara: The construction of the South Cargo Terminal, owned by Azerbaijan Railways and located in the Iranian city of Astara, is nearing completion. This terminal is a significant part of the North-South Transport Corridor, as was discussed by Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev during a trilateral meeting with government representatives from Azerbaijan, Russia, and Iran in Baku.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the progress made under the Intergovernmental Memorandum of Understanding signed between Azerbaijan and Iran in March 2022. This agreement focuses on the construction of the Aghband-Kalaleh automobile bridge over the Araz River, which is set to become a crucial element of the region’s transport infrastructure. The bridge’s construction, a vital component of the Araz Corridor, is anticipated to be completed by the end of this year, with the associated border and customs infrastructure expected in the first quarter of next year.
