Aghdam: Projects are being implemented to create new public and recreational spaces in the liberated city of Aghdam, APA's Karabakh bureau reports. The Central Park currently under construction in the city is one of these projects. Tarana Guliyeva, Head of the Public Relations Department of the Restoration, Construction and Management Service in the Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavand districts, said that the park is being developed in accordance with modern urban planning principles.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the foundation of the Central Park was laid on December 24, 2023, with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev. The park encompasses a total area of 5.5 hectares, with plans to landscape 3.73 hectares with green spaces. It will feature areas for recreation and public events, 7,349 square meters of open space, and 5,652 meters of internal roads. Additionally, a tea house, administrative and catering buildings, mobile kiosks, security and sanitary facilities, as well as a water reservoir and pumping stations are being constructed.
The project also considers the preservation of Aghdam's historical and cultural heritage. A statue of Farhad, a character from Nizami Ganjavi's 'Khosrow and Shirin,' is planned to be installed in the park. The monument, originally created by sculptor Tokay Mammadov in 1959 and destroyed during the occupation, is being recreated based on his original sketch. The creation of the statue has been entrusted to People's Artist Huseyn Hagverdiyev, with Sanan Jafarov supervising the technical work. Honored Artist and Doctor of Sciences Rashad Mehdiyev serves as the chief curator of the project.
