Baku: The court hearing in the criminal case against Ruben Vardanyan, an Armenian citizen facing charges under the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan for crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, terrorism, financing of terrorism, and other serious offenses, is set to resume on February 10.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the court session initially scheduled for December 30, 2025, was postponed indefinitely. This delay occurred as the court panel, presided over by Judge Zeynal Aghayev with judges Anar Rzayev and Jamal Ramazanov (reserve judge Gunel Samadova), entered into deliberations on a separate criminal case involving 15 Armenian citizens.
Ruben Vardanyan is confronting an extensive list of charges under the Azerbaijani Criminal Code. These charges include Articles 100.1 and 100.2 related to war aggression; 107 for deportation or forcible displacement; 109 for persecution; 110 for forcible disappearance; 112 for unlawful deprivation of liberty; 113 for torture; and 114.1 for mercenary activities. Additional charges include several violations under Article 116 related to international humanitarian law during armed conflicts, multiple counts of intentional murder under Articles 120 and 29.120, illegal entrepreneurship under Article 192.3.1, and terrorism-related charges under Articles 214 and 214-1, among others. Vardanyan is also accused of creating a criminal group, illegal acquisition and possession of firearms, acts threatening aviation safety, forcible seizure of power, creation of unauthorized armed formations, and illegal border crossing.
