Deputy Minister Highlights Azerbaijan’s Role as Energy Bridge Between Central Asia and Europe

Baku: The territory stretching from Central Asia, the South Caucasus, the Middle East, and Trkiye to Europe through the Black Sea region is becoming a single geopolitical space, and Azerbaijan is serving as a bridge in this area, Azerbaijan's Deputy Energy Minister Orkhan Zeynalov said while speaking at the 31st Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the recent energy crisis has underscored the importance of the Middle Corridor and the energy corridor passing through Azerbaijan and Central Asia for global and regional energy security. These corridors have the potential to positively influence regional energy prices.

Zeynalov mentioned that Azerbaijan is actively involved in several major interconnection projects with partners from Central Asia, Georgia, Trkiye, Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary. Among these, the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe energy interconnection project is nearing the completion of its feasibility study. This project aims to supply Eastern and Southeastern Europe with essential energy in the near future.

He further explained that ensuring the technical sustainability of these cross-border projects is crucial. This involves maintaining the stability of the power grid, safeguarding the energy system's security, and meeting all technical requirements. The feasibility study results are proving to be highly informative in this context.

The next step, as highlighted by Zeynalov, is to assess the commercial viability of the projects. Key considerations include the advantages offered to potential buyers and the impact on energy prices at reception points in Europe. Zeynalov expressed optimism that these projects could positively affect end-user prices in Europe in the coming years.
