Baku: A fake video address purportedly from the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, generated using “deep-fake” technology, has been circulated across several social media platforms. Additionally, false information was disseminated in the name of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding a supposed crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane in Aktau, an event that did not occur, as reported by the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Media Development Agency stated that these fabricated pieces of information are part of a disinformation campaign designed to disrupt Azerbaijan’s information landscape. The agency urged the public to rely solely on information from official sources, emphasizing that the official website and social media accounts of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan consistently provide updates on the President’s activities. It also noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ official channels are available for obtaining the state’s official positions.
The statement further appealed to Azerbaijani citizens, journalists, and public activists to maintain a firm stance against such misinformation and to remain alert as campaigns based on false and misleading information continue to emerge.
