Baku: The dissolution of the Minsk Group is part of the significant triumph of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in both diplomatic and military arenas, stated Tahir Mirkishili, head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, in a statement to APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, in his speech on December 24, 2024, during the inauguration of the second residential complex in Aghdam, President Aliyev highlighted the biased stance of international organizations and certain states in resolving the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, along with the support they extended to Armenia. The speech emphasized Azerbaijan's steadfast struggle and victory against international biases. Despite prolonged support to Armenia, double standards, and breaches of international law, Azerbaijan persisted in its rightful struggle and emerged victorious. The development of a new residential area in Aghdam, a city previously occupied and devastated, stands as evidence of this victory. Aliyev's address served as a caution to the international community that double standards and unjust support do not foster enduring peace.

Mirkishili pointed out that the OSCE Minsk Group, along with its co-chairs Russia, the US, and France, sought to prolong the occupation and justify Armenia's stance rather than resolving the conflict. The prolonged negotiation process, the non-implementation of four UN Security Council resolutions, and the neglect of Armenia's aggressive policy were highlighted as significant issues. The Minsk Group's equal treatment of the occupier and occupied was criticized as a violation of international law.

On December 12, 2020, after a 44-day conflict, President Aliyev made a historic statement to the Minsk Group's co-chairs, declaring the organization's ineffectiveness and affirming Azerbaijan's reliance on its own capabilities. Azerbaijan, having reclaimed its territorial integrity after the war, did not succumb to pressure. In August 2024, during President Aliyev's US visit, Azerbaijan and Armenia jointly requested the OSCE to dissolve the Minsk Group. The group's dissolution was finalized on December 1, 2025, marking the end of what Mirkishili described as an anti-Azerbaijani entity, signifying a notable victory for Azerbaijan's leadership in diplomatic and military spheres.
