Ecuador’s former FM: I hope on eve of COP29, we will also celebrate peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia


‘Geopolitical issues play a role in climate change too,’ said María Fernanda Espinosa, the ex-president of the United Nations General Assembly for the 73rd session, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador during the panel discussion titled ‘From Good Words to Good Deeds’ at the XI Global Baku Forum, APA reports.

According to her, climate is not only an environmental, but also a geopolitical issue. “The solution to climate change is through economic and political issues,’ she added.

According to her, finance is the key issue in the transition to low-carbon energy.

She said that she hopes for finding answers to a number of serious questions at COP29: ‘Every country must take responsibility to contribute to climate change and should understand the responsibility of this. Countries face serious questions in the transition from traditional energy to renewable energy. What will be our next steps? How much money will countries need to transition to renewable energy? Which way should we go? What have we ach
ieved since 2015, what will be the plans and goals for 2030? These questions are among the main questions that COP29 faces. The road map for 2030 should be determined at COP29”.

‘I hope that on the eve of COP29, we will also celebrate the peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia,’ – she noted during her speech.
