EIB Initiates Technical Support for New Baku Metro Infrastructure Project

Baku: The European Investment Bank (EIB) has commenced the process of establishing coordination and technical support mechanisms for a new infrastructure project by ‘Baku Metro’ JSC, APA-Economics reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the EIB’s technical assistance will cover the preparation of the new project, ensuring it adheres to environmental and social standards, and assessing the process within the local legislative framework. This phase aims to align the project with the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) requirements and apply international standards.

The primary objective of the preparation support is to ensure that all technical, environmental, and social elements required during the planning of the future metro project are developed in accordance with international standards. The program will be implemented in Baku, with work scheduled to commence on February 9, 2026, and is expected to last for 30 months.

This technical assistance aims to bring the project to a stage where it is ready for financing in subsequent phases and to enhance institutional and technical coordination throughout the process.
