Baku: 'The humanitarian demining has already evolved from a humanitarian effort into a peacebuilding mission,' stated Elchin Amirbayov, Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on special assignments, during his address at the 4th International Mine Action Conference. The conference, themed 'Humanitarian Demining for Urban Recovery: Setting Standards of Excellence for Safe Settlements,' focused on the critical role of demining in fostering peace and stability in post-conflict regions.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Amirbayov emphasized the importance of the ongoing demining efforts, underscoring that peace remains incomplete as long as the remnants of war continue to endanger lives, restrict freedom of movement, and stifle economic growth. These challenges also delay the return of displaced individuals and obstruct the normalization of interstate relations, highlighting the necessity of comprehensive demining as part of peacebuilding initiatives.

Furthermore, Amirbayov reflected on the historic Washington Summit, noting a significant milestone achieved on August 8, 2025. During this summit, Azerbaijan and Armenia made a pivotal move towards reconciliation by initialing the agreed text of a peace treaty. The foreign ministers and leaders of both nations also signed the Joint Washington Declaration, which outlined a shared vision for a future free from the shadows of past conflicts.
