Official Beijing Highly Appreciates Azerbaijan’s Efforts to Combat Mine Threat

Baku: Combating the mine threat requires international cooperation, Counselor at the Department of Arms Control of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Shen Zhang said during his speech at the 4th International Conference on Mine Action titled 'Humanitarian Demining for Urban Recovery: Setting Standards of Excellence for Safe Settlements' in Baku, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Shen Zhang stated that areas contaminated with explosive ordnance pose serious obstacles to people's daily lives, agriculture, and socio-economic development. He noted that clearing mine-contaminated areas is important not only for ensuring people's safety but also for the restoration of settlements and the revitalization of economic activity.

The Chinese official highly praised Azerbaijan's efforts to combat the mine threat and emphasized the importance of international cooperation in this area. He highlighted that eliminating the mine threat should not be limited to clearing territories, but should also be part of a broader recovery process that ensures the safe return of people living in those areas to normal life.

Shen Zhang further noted that the international community should continue to support countries facing the mine threat and strengthen the exchange of experience and technology. He also emphasized the importance of linking efforts to eliminate the mine threat with the goals of peace, security, and sustainable development.
