Elmar Huseynov would have turned 54 today

Today, the late journalist Elmar Huseynov, who was killed on March 2, 2005, would have turned his 54 anniversary of the birth. This crime against the brave journalist remains unsolved.

Elmar Huseynov was known as a journalist and head of a number of media projects – newspapers and magazines, which sharply criticized the policies of the Azerbaijani authorities, systemic corruption, arbitrariness of security officials and officials, violations of human rights. The most popular among these publications was the “Monitor” magazine.

He was threatened many times, was prosecuted, and was imprisoned. Despite the offers of foreign states to grant political asylum, he remained in Azerbaijan and continued his professional activities until his death.

Elmar Huseynov was killed by seven pistol shots on the stairs of the house where he lived. The Turkish investigators involved in the investigation said they had solved the crime, but they were removed from the country. Authorities said the murder was committed by ethnic Azeris from Georgia, Tair Khubanov and Teimuraz Aliyev.

The Azerbaijani authorities claim that these persons have been put on the wanted list through Interpol, but the Georgian authorities have denied this. In fact, the case was let down on the brakes, and no one was looking for the indicated persons.

There is a version of involvement in the murder of a criminal group headed at that time by Interior Ministry Colonel Haji Mammadov, who was arrested and sentenced to life for numerous murders and abductions and died in prison.
