Environmental Strategies Key to Baku White City Project

Baku:An environmental approach has been integrated into the master plan of the White City project, as announced by Elena Chernova, special projects manager at Baku White City, during a panel discussion at the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Chernova explained that the White City project is part of a broader state program. It involves collaboration with government agencies, international urban planning consultants, and local experts.

Chernova highlighted that the project aims to repurpose a formerly heavily polluted site in Baku Bay through an environmental vision incorporated from the start. This includes climate-responsive urban planning and integrating the development with the existing urban environment and transport strategy.

The project also focuses on promoting public transport use, reducing car dependency and emissions, creating green spaces, and prioritizing pedestrian-friendly areas. Green buildings are a significant aspect of the development, with several business buildings already certified under BREEAM standards. This sustainability initiative is now being extended to residential buildings.
