Baku: 'We are trying to bring European experience and best practices in the field of demining to the region," Marijana Kujundzic, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Azerbaijan, said at the event titled 'Post-Conflict Urban Reconstruction: The Crucial Role of Humanitarian Demining Activities' held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Kujundzic disclosed ongoing negotiations regarding a new project with the International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victims Assistance in Slovenia. The project aims to bolster the institutional and operational capabilities of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA). It will encompass the training of mine detection dogs, provision of technical equipment, victim assistance, and supply of specialized ambulances. The project is expected to be signed and initiated shortly. This initiative follows a commitment made during Commissioner Marta Kos's visit to Karabakh in September of the previous year.

She emphasized the persistent need for support, highlighting that the EU, as a global donor and Team Europe, remains committed to extending its assistance. A total of 10 million euros has been mobilized for demining equipment and the establishment of the 'International Centre of Excellence for Mine Action'. Team Europe's aggregate support has reached 22 million euros. Kujundzic expressed optimism that this center could evolve into a regional hub for knowledge sharing in mine action efforts.
