EU Commissioner: Azerbaijan is a country in the region with minimal damage from the pandemic

This is my first visit to Azerbaijan and we have given a new impetus to our relations. The Economic and Investment Plan, which we discussed with the Azerbaijani government during my visit, will be very useful in terms of supporting the region in the post-pandemic period. This plan is the result of joint efforts. This plan will be implemented to make the countries of the region stronger socially and economically, and we will be able to stimulate economic and social development in the region with this plan.

The statement came from EU Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Oliver Varheli, who concluded his visit to Azerbaijan, AZERTAC reported.

He said: “Azerbaijan is a country that has emerged from the pandemic in the region with minimal damage. Azerbaijan is an economically developed and strong country. Therefore, we have focused on the economic and social spheres. At the same time, we intend to strengthen cooperation in other areas. ”

Stating that he is in Alat International Sea Trade Port, Oliver Varhely said that this port is important for the East-West transport route. We have made proposals on the transition of this port to a green economy and computerization. Azerbaijan is an important partner for the European Union in the field of energy.

He said they also discussed the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and would support the EU in achieving a lasting and lasting peace. “The EU will support a more lasting and lasting peace in the region after the conflict,” he said. The parties have already taken steps in this direction by releasing detainees and presenting mine maps. As the European Union, we welcome this exchange. Georgia’s role in this process is commendable. The EU stands ready to provide any support for lasting peace. The European Union is also ready to provide financial support, which will be beneficial for both sides. ”
