Brussels: The storage levels of underground gas reservoirs in European Union countries have surpassed 75.5%, APA-Economics reports citing the European Gas Infrastructure Operators Association (Gas Infrastructure Europe, GIE). The current storage level stands at approximately 75.61%, reflecting a decrease of 7.68 percentage points compared to the average indicator of the last five years. In the corresponding period last year, the storage level was at a higher 91%.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the total volume of gas in the storage facilities across EU countries is reported to be 83.1 billion cubic meters. This development comes as the European Commission mandates EU nations to ensure their gas storage facilities are filled to 90% capacity by November 1 each year. The directive aims to bolster reserves for the winter period, particularly to guard against potential supply disruptions or unexpected cold weather conditions.

The report also highlights the ongoing transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe, which commenced on December 31, 2020, via the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP). This pipeline is a significant part of the EU’s strategy to diversify energy sources and enhance energy security.
