European Commission Delegation Visits Azerbaijan to Discuss Strategic Cooperation

Nakhchivan:A delegation led by Adrienn Kiraly, Director for Eastern Neighbourhood and Trkiye at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood, recently arrived in Azerbaijan to strengthen ties. The delegation visited Nakhchivan on September 29, where they were welcomed by Jeyhun Jalilov, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, discussions during the meeting highlighted the successful development of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Commission, built upon strategic partnership, friendship, and mutual trust under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. The importance of long-term, mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and EU member states was also underscored.

The meeting also expressed satisfaction with the agreements reached within the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia. It was noted that achieving sustainable peace and stability in the region could significantly contribute to creating new transport and communication opportunities, expanding economic ties, and deepening cooperation.

Jeyhun Jalilov emphasized Nakhchivan's strategic importance, situated at the crossroads of East-West and North-South transport corridors. The energy potential of Nakhchivan and ongoing renewable energy projects were also discussed.

Elisabetta Falcetti, Managing Director for Trkiye and the Caucasus at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and part of the delegation, highlighted plans for project implementation. She mentioned the bank's role in financing these projects through concessional loans.

Adrienn Kiraly stressed the importance of the visit and noted the significance of the information shared on the development of Nakhchivan's transport, energy, and economic potential. The delegation reviewed the economic aspects of upcoming projects by the European Commission and prospects for further cooperation development.
