BAKU: The European Parliament has been accused of escalating its alleged hostility towards the Azerbaijani people to an institutional level, according to a statement from the Western Azerbaijani Community. The statement, reported by Trend News Agency, highlights concerns over international humanitarian law and human rights violations, claiming that Western Azerbaijanis have historically faced foreign occupation, ethnic cleansing, and cultural heritage destruction.

According to Trend News Agency, the Western Azerbaijani Community emphasized the importance of recognizing the right of return for millions of Western Azerbaijanis displaced by what they describe as ethnic cleansing by Armenia. The community criticized Western countries for their perceived indifference and alleged encouragement of Armenia’s actions, which they claim include occupation and ethnic cleansing. The statement further accuses the United States Congress, the European Parliament, and the parliaments of France, the Netherlands, among others,
of engaging in activities that undermine peace efforts in the region.

The statement denounces a resolution adopted by the European Parliament on October 24, 2024, as part of what it describes as a vilification campaign against Azerbaijan. It criticizes the resolution for being adopted on the same day as a meeting between Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders in Kazan, and accuses certain European Parliament members, particularly from France, of harboring discriminatory views.

The Western Azerbaijani Community condemns the European Parliament’s actions, alleging that they contribute to discrimination against Azerbaijanis on ethnic and religious grounds. The community vows to continue opposing such policies and the promotion of political agendas disguised as human rights protection.
