BAKU: The Western Azerbaijan Community has issued a strong statement condemning the European Parliament’s recent resolution, accusing it of contributing to a campaign against Azerbaijan and escalating hostility towards its people to an institutional level. The statement highlights the historical suffering of Western Azerbaijanis due to foreign occupation, ethnic cleansing, and cultural heritage destruction, and stresses the importance of international humanitarian law and human rights.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the community’s statement emphasizes the right of return for millions of Western Azerbaijanis who were ethnically cleansed by Armenia. It criticizes Western countries for their perceived indifference to these violations and accuses them of encouraging Armenia’s actions. The statement also expresses concern over perceived attempts by international bodies, including the European Parliament, to prevent sustainable peace in the region by intensifying disruptive activities.
The statement speci
fically targets the European Parliament’s resolution adopted on October 24, 2024, labeling it as part of a slander campaign against Azerbaijan. It recalls the European Parliament’s historical stance, notably its 1988 call for the transfer of the “Nagorno-Garabagh Autonomous Oblast” to the Armenian SSR, as evidence of long-standing hostility towards Azerbaijan.
The Western Azerbaijan Community condemns the resolution as discriminatory and an attempt to reignite conflict in the region under the guise of human rights protection. The community vows to continue highlighting what it describes as anti-Azerbaijani policies and calls out certain deputies, particularly from France, for their role in the debates. The statement concludes with a commitment to expose these elements for advancing their political agendas under the pretext of human rights.
