ASHGABAT: Turkmenistan and Afghanistan are intensifying their collaborative efforts to finalize the development of the Serhetabat-Herat gas pipeline, a crucial segment in the larger Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project. The initiative is focused on enhancing energy security and increasing natural gas supplies between the two nations.
According to Trend News Agency, Muhammetmyrat Amanov, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of TAPI Pipeline Company Limited, emphasized the strategic importance of the project during the “Future of Turkmenistan’s natural gas: new export routes and export potential” panel at the 29th ‘Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2024’ International Conference and EXPO in Ashgabat. Amanov highlighted that the pipeline is key to boosting energy security for both Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, while also expanding the channels for natural gas distribution beyond traditional routes.
The completion of the Serhetabat-Herat pipeline is expected to significantly enh
ance gas deliveries, not only to Afghanistan but also to neighboring countries, thereby facilitating a more integrated energy market within Central Asia. Both nations are currently engaged in extensive research and planning activities to lay the groundwork for this substantial infrastructure project.
The construction of the Serhetabat-Herat section commenced in September 2024, marking a pivotal step in the overall TAPI project. This development is poised to strengthen the energy infrastructure in the region, providing a reliable and sustainable source of energy that benefits multiple countries.
