Europeans Must Speak from a Unified Front, Says Former European Council President

Brussels: “I have worked in the European Union for 10 years, and today I am considered a veteran of that field,” said the former President of the European Council, Charles Michel, during the panel themed Geopolitical Shifts: Responsible Partnerships versus Rivalry at the XII Global Forum, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Charles Michel emphasized the importance of unity among European nations. He mentioned efforts to periodically bring EU governments together to discuss the autonomy and independence of the EU, as well as security issues. Michel noted that five years ago, there were calls for independent decision-making, and now this approach has become a necessity.

Michel urged Europeans to operate with confidence and unity, stressing that trust and collaboration are essential for strength. He asserted that Europe has no option but to stand firm in its interests, and there should be no retreat or deviation from support. Highlighting the importance of a cohesive European identity, Michel stated that unity is crucial to reinforcing international law. He warned that without unity, Europe risks acting in a fragmented manner, which could lead to more severe consequences in the wake of events in Ukraine.
