Baku: A side event themed 'Early Warning and Climate-Resilient Cities' was organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources as part of the 13th Session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13). The event focused on the critical role of multi-hazard early warning systems in bolstering urban resilience against climate change impacts.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, discussions at the event centered on mitigating damage from extreme weather events to the environment, urban infrastructure, and residential areas. The emphasis was on making science-based, life-saving decisions to enhance urban resilience.

The panel discussions saw participation from representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Finnish Meteorological Institute, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and the Turkish State Meteorological Service.

The event also highlighted the "Early Warnings for All" (EW4ALL) initiative, launched by the UN Secretary-General in 2022. In line with this initiative, Azerbaijan, supported by UNEP and the Green Climate Fund (GCF), plans to implement a project aimed at strengthening climate information and multi-hazard early warning systems to increase resilience in the country.
