Baku: An event marking the 5th anniversary of the historic Victory in the 44-day Patriotic War was held with the involvement of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and Arzu Aliyeva. The event took place on November 5, commemorating a significant milestone in Azerbaijan’s history.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the event, supported by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, gathered mothers of Azerbaijan’s heroes who lost their lives across various conflicts, from the First Karabakh War to anti-terrorist operations. The gathering coincided with the 5th anniversary of the “My Son is a Hero!” project, organized by the Fire Land group.
Speakers at the event emphasized the valor of Azerbaijan’s army under the leadership of President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev. They celebrated the liberation of lands from Armenian occupation and the heroism displayed in the struggle for Azerbaijan’s independence and territorial integrity. A trailer for the feature film “44,” depicting the road to Victory and the army’s heroism, was also screened.
The evening featured performances by prominent Azerbaijani artists. The families of martyrs presented a commemorative gift to Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva, showing appreciation for the state’s ongoing support and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s dedication to the families of martyrs.
Matanat Mammadova and Ulduz Mikayilova, mothers of martyrs, expressed their gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva. Over the past five years, Azerbaijan has held events to honor its martyrs, including projects like “My Son is a Hero!” and “My Father is a Hero!”, with widespread participation from families of fallen soldiers.
During Ramadan this year, approximately 2,000 mothers of Azerbaijani martyrs attended meetings under the “My Son is a Hero!” project, supported by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. These initiatives reflect the ongoing respect and care for martyrs’ families and support the state’s efforts in commemorating their sacrifices.
