Baku: “The peoples of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are united by threads of brotherhood that go back centuries,” stated Ahmad Ismayilov, Executive Director of the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, during his speech at the II Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan Media Forum on “Digital Transformation and Media.”

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Ismayilov emphasized that historical ties between the two nations have reached a high stage due to the strong political will and leadership of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. He noted that the strategic partnership between the countries opens up opportunities for cooperation in various sectors, including media.

Ismayilov discussed the changes in the global information landscape over the past decade, highlighting the shift towards digital media consumption and the emergence of social networks and online platforms as primary channels for information exchange. He pointed out that digital transformation enhances media efficiency but also brings new responsibilities, such as ensuring the accuracy and reliability of news.

He further explained that recent reforms in Azerbaijani media, supported by the state, align with similar transformations in Uzbek media. These parallel developments underscore the importance of cooperation between the two countries as they address common challenges, such as combating disinformation, upholding professional journalism, and educating the younger generation in the digital environment.

Ismayilov concluded by suggesting that media cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan could serve as an exemplary model for the region, given their shared values and historical memory. He stressed the role of media in preserving these values and passing them on to future generations.
