Azerbaijan to Construct 2.7 GW of Renewable Energy by 2030

Baku: Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, announced plans to build wind and solar power plants with a total capacity of 2.7 GW by 2030. The announcement was made during his speech at the second day of the 2nd Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW), as reported by APA-Economics.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, this initiative aims to triple the installed capacity of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan to 4 GW. The development is expected to prevent the emission of 3.2 million tons of greenhouse gases, marking a significant step in the country’s commitment to sustainable energy.

The minister highlighted that over the next two years, Azerbaijan will integrate 10 new power plants into the national grid. These will be supported by battery storage systems with a capacity of 250 MW and a storage volume of 500 MW to manage 2 GW of renewable energy.

Parviz Shahbazov also emphasized that one of these plants, the 240 MW ‘Khizi-Absheron’ Wind Power Plant, is scheduled to be commissioned in November. This project reflects Azerbaijan’s ongoing commitment to expanding its renewable energy infrastructure.
