According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Azerbaijan is evolving beyond its role as a conventional energy provider to become a leading participant in the creation of a green environment in the region. This transformation is supported by the country’s strategic flexibility, driven by its geopolitical location, modern infrastructure, and enhanced international relations, positioning Baku as a key player in renewable energy and environmentally friendly connectivity.
Azerbaijan has focused on establishing a resilient green economy by prioritizing sustainability in its development agenda. The government’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent by 2050 and creating net-zero emission areas aligns with global decarbonization trends, underscoring Azerbaijan’s role in global climate goals.
A landmark achievement is the Trans-Caspian Green Energy Corridor, a project initiated at COP29 in Baku. This historic deal, signed by the Presidents of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, aims to connect Central Asia and the South Caucasus power networks to European energy markets. The corridor, supported by feasibility studies from the Asian Development Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, is not only an infrastructure initiative but also a geopolitical tool enhancing regional interdependence.
In parliament, Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov announced significant foreign and domestic investments in solar and wind power projects, totaling 2.8 billion in investment. These initiatives are accelerating economic growth and establishing a sustainable energy ecosystem.
Deputy Minister of Energy Orkhan Zeynalov emphasized the importance of reliable transit routes and regional integration for energy project efficiency during the 1st Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2025). The interconnected routes between Central Asia, Azerbaijan, and Europe will strengthen energy security and enhance Eurasian strategic relations.
Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are exploring collaboration in the hydrocarbon and renewables sectors, with a focus on green hydrogen as a strategic energy carrier. This development highlights Azerbaijan’s emerging role in the Eurasian green power grid, combining local renewable development with global partnerships.
