Baku: A 45-container China-Europe freight train carrying photovoltaic modules from the China Energy Engineering Group has departed from Xi'an. This marks the inaugural train journey from China via the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, or the Middle Corridor, in 2026. The train, which set off on January 1, will traverse the Khorgos border crossing into Kazakhstan before reaching Baku through the Caspian Sea.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the swift delivery of photovoltaic modules to Baku was facilitated by Xi'an's active role in the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. The route's member partners have been instrumental in reducing costs and enhancing efficiency. Currently, train traffic along this corridor has increased, and transportation time has been shortened from 15-23 days to approximately 11 days.

The Trans-Caspian route for the China-Europe freight train from Xi'an was inaugurated in October 2019. By the end of November 2025, it had recorded a total of 466 trips.
