Foreign Ministers of Trkiye, Azerbaijan, and Georgia Sign Landmark Istanbul Declaration

Istanbul: The Istanbul Declaration of the Tenth Trilateral Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Trkiye, Republic of Azerbaijan, and Georgia was signed, as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the meeting, held on June 8, 2026, in Istanbul, saw participation from H.E. Hakan Fidan of Trkiye, H.E. Maka Botchorishvili of Georgia, and H.E. Jeyhun Bayramov of Azerbaijan.

The declaration emphasized the strong cooperation among the three countries, highlighting their commitment to peace, stability, and regional development. The ministers acknowledged the importance of their collaboration in various fields such as politics, economy, trade, security, science, and technology. They underscored the need to address challenges like terrorism, organized crime, and cyber threats.

The document reaffirmed support for each country's sovereignty and territorial integrity while emphasizing the significance of regional peace for cooperative potential. Energy cooperation was a focal point, with a nod to the strategic impact of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline and Southern Gas Corridor on regional energy security.

The ministers noted the importance of strengthening transportation and energy ties, including green energy initiatives. They highlighted the role of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway in regional connectivity and celebrated the completion of modernization works at the Akhalkalaki International Railway Station in Georgia.

The declaration also covered environmental cooperation, welcoming Trkiye's presidency of the 31st session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The ministers expressed a commitment to combating terrorism and organized crime and pledged to enhance economic cooperation through targeted projects.

Plans for future collaboration were discussed, including the seventh 'Trkiye-Azerbaijan-Georgia Business Forum' and ongoing inter-parliamentary cooperation. The ministers agreed to hold the next trilateral meeting in Georgia in 2027, reinforcing their commitment to regular dialogue.

The meeting concluded with expressions of gratitude to H.E. Hakan Fidan for hosting the successful event in Istanbul.
