Baku: Foreign nationals serving prison sentences, whether for a fixed term or life imprisonment (excluding those in colony-type penitentiaries), will now receive medical services under Azerbaijan’s compulsory health insurance system, APA reports. This provision is included in proposed amendments to the ‘Law on Medical Insurance,’ discussed during today’s session of the National Assembly.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the draft law aims to ensure that prisoners serving fixed-term or life sentences undergo medical examinations within the framework of compulsory health insurance. The proposed amendments add such individuals to Article 15-2.1 of the law while removing the previously defined subject category in Article 15-2.3. These changes also take into account cases where the individuals are foreign nationals or stateless persons.

Given the special nature of medical services for this category, a new Article 15-17.2.3-3 will be added, which defines the conditions for providing medical services within the Services Envelope. After discussions, the draft law was put to a vote and adopted in the first reading.
