Former Latvian President Highlights Resilience of Nations Amid Global Pressures

Baku: "The world is not a fair place, but nations and states sometimes manage to stand up to pressures," said Co-Chair of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center and former President of Latvia, Vaira Vike-Freiberga, at the opening ceremony of the 13th Global Baku Forum, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Vaira Vike-Freiberga emphasized the challenges posed by the modern world, especially with the widespread development of information technologies. She noted that concepts of justice and equality are sometimes distorted, citing recent events in Ukraine as an example where attacks against civilians and destruction persist. Vike-Freiberga also highlighted concerns about trade routes and economic ties being used as political instruments in some countries.

One of the most alarming issues she pointed out is the lack of acceptance of mutual respect and equality between allies and partners. Despite these challenges, she remarked that there are various examples of nations and states responding to aggression, disrespect, and threats. These instances demonstrate that through unity and determination, countries can stand up to such pressures.
