Baku: Former U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Robert Cekuta has stated that he does not perceive any indications of a desire to restrict defense articles to Azerbaijan. He emphasized the geostrategic importance of Azerbaijan and its needs for self-defense within the context of the United States' overarching strategy for global peace and security.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Cekuta discussed Section 907, a piece of legislation established during the dissolution of the Soviet Union. This legislation has provisions allowing it to be waived annually, a practice that was continued by former President Trump. The focus of this legislation has been concerns over the use of weapons by Azerbaijan against Armenia, and vice versa. Cekuta remarked on the absence of any current initiatives to change this law, stressing the importance of not restricting defense articles to Azerbaijan.

Cekuta further noted that the current U.S. administration is keen on enabling countries to defend themselves. However, he reiterated that this administration, similar to previous ones, is unlikely to supply weapons to either Armenia or Azerbaijan that could exacerbate conflicts. The overarching goal remains to foster peace and resolve conflicts rather than intensify them.
