Baku: More than 3 billion people worldwide live in inadequate housing conditions, with over 300 million individuals having no housing at all, as stated by Gabon's Minister of Housing, Urban Planning and Cadastre, Ludovic Megne Ndong. The remarks were made during the ministers' meeting on the New Urban Agenda at the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Minister Ndong highlighted that urbanization levels exceeding 80% in Gabon have exacerbated structural shortages in the housing sector. The country currently faces a housing deficit of 300,000 units. In response to this issue, the Gabonese government has established the Gabon Housing Fund, expanded public-private partnerships, and initiated the development of a data system covering more than 250 key indicators in the housing sector.
Minister Ndong emphasized that these measures aim to direct investments more effectively and broaden citizens' access to adequate housing. The steps taken by Gabon are seen as crucial in addressing both national and global housing challenges.
