Gara Garayev’s Musical Heritage Highlights Art, Spanish Artist Says

Baku: February 5, 2026, marks the 108th anniversary of Gara Garayev, a genius composer, outstanding representative of Azerbaijani culture, People's Artist of the USSR, and Hero of Socialist Labor.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, musicians, culture, as well as culture and art figures from different countries shared their insights on the creativity of the renowned composer. Spanish artist Nani Boronat expressed that Gara Garayev's musical heritage illuminates the art, allowing a profound connection to it. Boronat compared Garayev's preludes to the creativity of Joan Mir³ and Wassily Kandinsky, describing Garayev's works as inspiring and appealing.

Boronat revealed that his discovery of Garayev's creativity was influenced by his father and mentioned his collaboration with pianist Ulviyya Abdullayeva, which deepened his understanding of Azerbaijani culture. He also noted the parallels between Azerbaijani mugham and Andalusian flamenco.

The Spanish artist further discussed a recent collaboration with Ulviyya Abdullayeva, a project combining concert and exhibition titled 'From Alhambra to Shirvanshah'.
