Baku: George Zakarashvili has been appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Azerbaijan, effective October 1, 2026.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, George Zakarashvili brings extensive experience from his roles at Georgia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His career includes significant positions in the ministry's central office and various diplomatic missions.
Zakarashvili's current position as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Ukraine and Permanent Representative of Georgia to GUAM will conclude on October 1, 2026. He has held this role since 2021.
Previously, from 2016 to 2019, he served as Minister Plenipotentiary of Georgia at the Section of Interests of Georgia at the Embassy of the Swiss Confederation to the Russian Federation. Between 2012 and 2016, he was Minister Plenipotentiary at the Embassy of Georgia to Ukraine and the Permanent Representation of Georgia to GUAM.
At different points in his career, Zakarashvili has also been Director of the Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and led the Division for Relations with the Countries of Central Asia.
