Tbilisi: Parliamentary elections in Georgia are of critical importance for maintaining peace and unity in the country, especially given the current polarized political climate, according to Irakli Kadagishvili, a member of the “Georgian Dream” party.
According to Trend News Agency, Kadagishvili expressed concerns over the divisive nature of the political landscape, emphasizing the deceptive tactics employed by some opposition groups. “The opposition presents the situation as a choice between pro-European and pro-Russian approaches, which is completely deceptive. Georgia will not alter its political direction,” he stated. He stressed the importance of these elections in preserving national stability without the interference of external forces.
Kadagishvili also criticized the involvement of foreign powers and international organizations in Georgia’s electoral process, accusing them of undermining state sovereignty and diplomatic decorum. “It is unacceptable that foreign representatives or international organ
izations constantly make statements about Georgia and meddle in the democratic election process,” he remarked, highlighting the desire of the Georgian people to make sovereign decisions regarding their leadership.
The MP pointed out that Georgia is a leading candidate for EU membership, with performance metrics that often surpass those of many current EU countries. This, he said, is a testament to Georgia’s successful reforms and alignment with European standards. Despite this, Kadagishvili voiced concerns over the geopolitical pressures from the West, particularly related to Russia, and the implications for national policy and security.
He reassured that the electoral process in Georgia is equipped with advanced technology ensuring transparency and accuracy, with results expected to be announced shortly after polls close. Kadagishvili is optimistic about the ruling Georgian Dream Party’s prospects, citing potential benefits such as increased regional projects and infrastructure developments including a sig
nificant new Black Sea port, enhanced railway connections, and pipelines that could further integrate Georgia into European and Asian markets.
Furthermore, Kadagishvili emphasized the strategic importance of the Middle Corridor as an alternative to traditional routes through Russia and China, especially given the current global tensions affecting traditional trade routes. This shift, he noted, could significantly boost Georgia’s role in international trade and logistics.
