TBILISI: Voter turnout in Georgia’s parliamentary election reached 41.62 percent by 15:00 local time, with 1,454,837 citizens casting their ballots, as reported by the Central Election Commission (CEC). Polls opened at 08:00 and are set to close at 20:00, with the nation utilizing a new electronic voting system expected to expedite results.

According to Trend News Agency, the election is being held under a proportional system based on party lists, with parties needing to secure at least five percent of the vote to gain parliamentary seats. The regional voter turnout was distributed as follows: Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti saw 135,863 voters, Tbilisi recorded 437,426, Kakheti had 125,558, Mtskheta-Mtianeti noted 38,073, Kvemo Kartli saw 142,851, Shida Kartli reported 98,338, Samtskhe-Javakheti had 62,339, Racha-Lechkhumi registered 15,765, Imereti recorded 220,771, Guria noted 45,010, and Adjara had 132,843 voters.

The election is being monitored by 102 local and 64 international organizations. A total of 3,508,29
4 people are eligible to vote, including 95,910 Georgians living abroad. Voting stations have been established across 53 cities in 42 countries, marking a record with 67 stations outside Georgia. This election introduces electronic voting to facilitate a quicker count, with more than 90 percent of ballots expected to be counted within an hour after polls close. Eighteen parties are competing, with five having formed coalitions.
